![]() ![]() I wanted to drive a car that was just as cool as car number 00001 but a lot faster." Naturally, for a man as well connected as Bruce, it wasn't long before he located another Jamaica Yellow Firebird Formula in Virginia (he actually now owns three of them) and after confirming it was the real deal, Bruce hauled it back home and promptly began tearing it apart. ![]() "As soon as I got back, I started looking for an original car to do an LS swap to, since my company, Hawks Third Generation, is one of the best known sources for this swap. Of course, for Bruce, having a Jamaica Yellow Firebird Formula and not driving it would be crazy talk but with a car so special, he had to come up with a creative plan. You see, normally a collector of Bruce's caliber would buy a car this important and stick it in storage, never to see the light of day again. With 1,500-miles on the odometer, Bruce bought himself a pristine piece of automotive history, but the story doesn't end there. ![]() The high bidder of that auction was none other than our good friend Bruce "Blueberries" Hawkins, owner of Hawks Third Generation in Easley, South Carolina. Sheer numbers aside, this car was so important to GM that it actually earned a spot in the company's Heritage Collection until it was put up for sale at the 7th Annual Barrett-Jackson West Palm Beach Collector Car Auction. Oh, and it came from GM with the sought after WS6 suspension package. Being VIN 00001 is certainly important, but this Formula also happens to be 1 of 22 1LE cars built and it is only 1 of 42 Jamaica Yellow Firebird Formulas ever produced. What's so rare about this particular Formula you ask? According to the history books, this Formula was the very first third-generation car built in 1992, a year that celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Firebird. If you looked it up in GMHTP, you would only find a single picture, a lone '92 Jamaica Yellow Firebird Formula. If you looked up the word "rare" in the dictionary, you would find the following definition: Marked by unusual quality, merit or appeal seldom occurring or found. ![]()
